Monte Dean Compton

MONTE DEAN COMPTON

 

Monte Dean Compton was born February 13, 1933, at Watonga, Oklahoma to Carl and Josie (Pendergraft) Compton and passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 91. 

 

He was a resident of the Watonga community most of his life. In 1965 Monte moved to Enid, Oklahoma and became the assistant manager of Safeway Grocery Store.  In 1968, he moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma, becoming the manager of Safeway.  Monte moved back to Watonga in 1969 becoming partners with Jim and Reba Pierce in Jims IGA grocery store.  In 1982, he and his wife Elaine started the One Stop convenience store in Watonga.  This ran for 11 years until they sold it and retired.  Monte graduated from Watonga High School in 1952 and was a past member of the Blaine County Fair Board, the Round Up Club and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Watonga. Monte enjoyed cowboying, coyote hunting and he loved to ride and train horses.  He loved spending time with family and enjoyed all of his grandchildren. 

 

Monte married Elaine Beeson at Kingfisher, Oklahoma on April 19, 1952 and together they celebrated 72 years of marriage. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Leo Compton and Shorty Compton, one sister, Reba Pierce, one son in law, Bobby Fanning, one daughter in law, Lisa Compton and one grandson; Bobby Waugh. 

 

Monte is survived by: 

His wife Elaine of the home in Watonga, OK

Two daughters……………..Deborah and husband Roger Waugh of Oklahoma City, OK

………………………………….Rochelle Fanning and Terry Duncan of Watonga, OK

 

One sister……………………Annette Morris of Oklahoma City, OK

 

Nine grandchildren……….Kevin Compton and wife Carrie, Joe Compton and wife Carrie, Alexis and husband Nicholas Wornell, Ryan and wife Jessica Pierce, Justin Pierce, Kaylen Waugh, Nichol Gould and husband Travis, Brian Fanning, Greg Fanning and wife Amber.

 

19 Great grandchildren….Dylan Compton, Shelby Compton, Wyatt Compton and wife Caitlin, Brooklyn Steed, Wyatt Steed, Juliana Wornell, Kyle Pierce, Kymber Pierce, Kaleb Branson, Kendra Sherier and husband Daniel, Justin Waugh, Joey Waugh, Taylor Grube, Kolton Gould, Hayly Grube, Callie Grube, Rileigh Minton, Myles Fanning and Maeve Fanning.

 

Three great great grandchildren…Rylynn Compton, Monte Tate Compton and Carter Compton.

 

Funeral services for Monte Compton will be Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the Watonga Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerrod Burch officiating.  Burial will follow in the East Mt. Pleasant Cemetery of Watonga.  Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary Watonga, OK. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the The Alzheimer's Association or the Watonga Church of the Nazarene.


Public viewing will be on Monday July 22, 2024 from 10:00 A,M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wilkinson Mortuary
