Meradith Hursh Norris was born May 14, 1952, in Watonga, Oklahoma to Ted and Patricia Hursh. Meradith passed away at her home in Hitchcock, Oklahoma on April 11, 2025, at the age of 72.
A lifetime resident of the Watonga and Hitchcock communities, Meradith received her early education at Hitchcock Schools before attending Watonga High School, graduating in 1970. Meradith attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University before returning to Watonga. In 1971, Meradith welcomed her first child, Casey, followed by the birth of her second child, Ryan, in 1976.
Meradith married Steve Norris of Texhoma, Oklahoma, on August 12, 2000, and the two made their home in Hitchcock.
Meradith worked at Mr. Dozer, Opportunities Treatment Center, Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, and served as the director of the Watonga Chamber of Commerce before retiring to become a full-time grandma where she traveled across the state to cheer for her grandchildren (LOUDLY!) from the stands. She also enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends and family, quilting, playing cards, and performing at the Watonga Community Theatre.
Meradith was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Patricia Hursh, her son, Casey, her nephew, Austin Hursh, and grandson, Cameron.
She is her survived by her husband, Steve Norris, of the home in Hitchcock; son, Ryan Beck and wife Amy, of Weatherford; brothers, Tim Hursh and wife Cindy, of Canton, Oklahoma, Teddy Hursh and wife, Candy, of Alamogordo, New Mexico; grandchildren, Derek Beck and wife Morgan, Cooper and Cayden McCarty, Addison and Nahliya Beck; and one great-grandson, Cache Ryan Beck, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Funeral services for Meradith will be held Saturday, April 19th, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the Hitchcock United Methodist Church with Pastor Lanny Jobe officiating. The burial will follow, at Cottonwood Cemetery, with Wilkinson Mortuary handling all arrangements.
