Judith Ann McCarty
Judith (Judy) Ann McCarty fell asleep in Jesus on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Originally from Okeene, Oklahoma, Judy was the second of two daughters born to Frank and Esther Bedwell on December 27, 1941. Judy grew up on a farm southeast of Okeene. She attended Hitchcock Schools and graduated in 1958. After high school, she moved to Enid and lived in the YWCA. There, she completed a secretarial course of study at Enid Business School.
On February 9, 1961, Judy married her high school sweetheart, Jim Grothe. They had six children. Judy loved family most of all and poured her love, attention, resources, and caring into raising her children.
Judy worked at many jobs to make ends meet. She worked as a certified nurse’s aide at various long-term care facilities. Her favorite place of employment and the job from which she retired was at the Okeene Hospital, working the overnight shift. She loved the excitement of working in the emergency room and the joy of assisting with the delivery of babies. Judy was blessed by many friends during her lifetime and maintained those friendships until her passing. She loved to get a soda pop and talk on the phone with her friends.
On July 11, 1981, Judy married the love of her life, Eustace (Mac) McCarty, at which time she moved to Hennessey, OK. Judy and Mac enjoyed traveling, antiquing, scrapbooking, reading, traveling, farming, and going to church. Judy was an active, lifelong member of the Okeene Seventh-day Adventist church, where she held several offices throughout her lifetime. In 2013, Judy married Tom Root. Following a decline in health in recent years, Judy was cared for at her home by her children, caregivers and Hospice Circle of Love. Judy’s philosophy of live was that every day is a gift from God and we must use it and live it to the very best of our ability.
Judy is survived by five children, Cindy Evans and husband Paul of Hennessey, OK; Chris Grothe & wife Theresa of Enid, OK; Shelly Alvarado of Enid, OK; James McCarty of Enid, OK; Tami McCarty of Ringwood, OK; and Debra Beck and husband, Roger of Cleburne, TX; 14 grandchildren, Chelsey Sugaski, Josh Evans, Emily Evans, David Fuksa, Jonathon Grothe, Julie Kadavy, Becky Grothe, Katie Grothe, Olivia Alvarado, Matthew Alvarado, Thomas Alvarado, Hanah Beck, Wayne Beck, and Madison Beck, and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Freeman; an infant son, Gregory Grothe; her first husband, Jim Grothe; her second husband, Mac McCarty; and her most recent husband, Thomas Root.
