IOLA JEAN GROVE





JEAN GROVE

Iola Jean (Hursh) Grove was born in Hitchcock, Oklahoma to Hulda (Ebret) Hursh and George Hursh Sr. July 6th, 1926 and passed away Friday, September 30 at the age of 96 at her home in Watonga.


She attended school in Hitchcock and Watonga, Oklahoma. Jean married PFC Marine Lonnie Harold Grove In Oakland, California on April 14th, 1945. She worked at the Navy supply depot in Oakland, California for a year then moving back to Watonga in 1946 where they made their home. Robert Harold (Bobby) was born November 25, 1946. James Edmund (Jimmy) was born January 13th, 1950. She worked at Anthony’s Department Store for 40 years as a bookkeeper and salesclerk retiring in January 1998. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease in 1999 and died at Clinton’s Veterans Center in March 2008.


Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her son Bobby, her parents, her sisters; infant Audry, Vivianne McReynolds, Dorothy Powers, and Nola Blehm, brothers; George Jr., Lloyd Hursh, and one great grandson Drew Matli.

She is survived by her son Jimmy who cared for her after her health declined, two sister; Marie Holt, Ruth Lage and husband LeRoy, one brother Howard Hursh and wife Joan, granddaughters Tammy Amshey and husband Tommy, RJ Grove, Jamie Ellison and husband Jay, Jennifer Tedder and husband Walker, Grandson Jeff Grove and wife Tracy, 9 great grandchildren; Bristin & Brynn Grove, Victoria, Page, & Cole Matli, Aspin & Kaden Tedder, Langston & Scarlett Ellison, 5 great great grandchildren; Gunnar Simmons, Sunni & Daisy Matli, Weston & Waylon Davis. Jean loved working with her flowers, feeding the birds, and the neighbor cat but not at the same time. Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday, October 4, from 11 A.M. until 8 P.M. at Wilkinson Mortuary.

Graveside services for Jean will be Wednesday, October 5 at 10:00 A.M. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga with Pastor Kason Oakes officiating. Arrangements by Wilkinson Mortuary of Watonga.
