Freda May (Boyd) Hausner

Freda May Hausner was born on October 13, 1935, in Fay, Oklahoma, to Regena Fay Boyd (Townley) and Farrol Alexander Boyd. Freda passed away on August 4, 2024, at the age of 88. She was a resident of the Watonga community for 17 years where she was a retired secretary and worked part time at End o’ Main Catering. She graduated from Fay High School in 1953 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the board of Opportunities, Inc., an active member of the Watonga Senior Citizen’s Center, Ferguson Home Museum, and Ferguson Chapel. She was married to Jim Hausner on February 5, 1959, in Oklahoma City where she worked as a telephone operator and clerk at Kress Department Store.

Freda wanted to join the military after high school, but that was not encouraged in 1953. Instead, she was a proud Air Force spouse and lived in Texas, Missouri, Michigan, the Philippines, and Germany. After Jim retired from the Air Force in 1971, they moved to his hometown, Sapulpa, Oklahoma, where she worked as the receptionist of the local newspaper, the Sapulpa Herald, and as secretary for a local office of State Farm Insurance.

Jim passed away in 2003, and a few years later, Freda made Watonga her “forever home” and, in her words, “To take care of my sisters and brother.” She loved crafting, country music, and, of course, shopping.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and her sister, Corene Kerr. She is survived by her daughter Melanie Marcec and husband George of Leavenworth, Kansas; son Kurt Hausner and wife Connie of Lilburn, Georgia; sisters Martha White (Randall) of Fay, Gene Matli (Bob) of Watonga, and brother Farrol Ray Boyd (Brenda) of Watonga. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amelia Anderson (Cooper), and Camden Mullis, and great-grandchildren Olive and Penelope Anderson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Funeral services for Freda Hausner will be held August 7, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Watonga at 10 a.m., with Pastor Dianna Matli officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery at Fay with Wilkinson Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Watonga Senior Citizen’s Center, Ferguson Home Museum, or Ferguson Chapel.
