BARBARA SUE BEDWELL

Barbara Sue (Schultz) Bedwell was born on January 11, 1940 and passed away peacefully on May 31, 2018. Barbara was born in Okeene, the second child born to Ted and Marcelious Schultz and grew up on the family farm in Okeene. She graduated from Okeene High School in 1958. Barbara married William H. (Bill) Bedwell on July 27, 1959. After marriage, Barbara and Bill made their home in Wichita, KS. While living there, they had three children- Katherine Sue (Kathy), William Kelly and Steven Mark. In 1968 they returned to Okeene to farm on the Bedwell family farm. They also started a Raleigh business, travelling throughout the county selling door to door. Barbara continued this business for several years after Bill's death. She was also the local "Avon Lady". During the years her children attended Okeene Public School, Barbara worked in the school cafeteria. She also served for many years with the Blaine County Election Board, she enjoyed this service for the opportunity to see and visit with local residents when they came to vote. Barbara had many hobbies and interests. Her favorite was playing her guitar and singing. She started at an early age singing with her older sister, Juanita, and they frequently performed at local events. She continued singing and playing guitar throughout the rest of her life in her church and at the Longdale Opry. When Barbara moved to the nursing home, she was blessed to have Carla Schultz visit her and together she and Carla would sing special songs to all of the residents. Barbara's grandchildren were her pride and joy. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would spoil all her grandchildren with gifts and making them favorite treats like applesauce donuts and banana pudding, without the bananas of course! Through the years, Barbara enjoyed spending her Saturday mornings at the soccer fields watching her grandchildren play soccer. One of her favorite stories to share was how when she went to Stillwater to watch her grandson play soccer and that match was indoors and out of the elements, which was so different from the rain, heat or freezing conditions of her Okeene grandchildren's games. Barbara was always the most loyal Whippet fan, attending all of the football and basketball games she could. She had a special seat in the gym next to Caroleen, Twila and Kathy. She especially enjoyed the games when her grandchildren were playing. As a child, Barbara grew up attending the Okeene Church of God and then became a member of the First Baptist Church when she and Bill moved back to Okeene. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Barbara is survived by her three children and their spouses: Kathy and Peter Thomas of Stillwater, Kelly and Becky Bedwell of Okeene, Steve and Susan Bedwell of Okeene; and nine gradchildren: Michael Thomas, Will Bedwell, Blake Bedwell, Chassidy Bedwell, Tanner Bedwell, Chance Bedwell, Chance Parker, Cayci Brickman and Tanner O'Kelly ;and four great grandchildren: Taytum, Logan, Holden, Grace and Ella.
